Does your dog "walk" like they're training for the Iditarod? Whether you're being dragged down the street or just tired of neighbors joking about "who's walking who," this two-week workshop will help you chart a path to looser leashes and more pleasant, cooperative walks. We will:
- discuss different version of "polite walking" and define your family's goals...without losing sight of the dog's needs.
- review leash equipment options, assess your current setup, and consider alternatives.
- present multiple exercises to build component skills, including Side-by-Side, Focus/Connection, and most importantly Awareness of Leash Pressure.
- choose a procedure you can actually stick to for "when the leash gets tight." Consistency is key, but that doesn't have to look the same for everyone!
Be prepared to use both environmental AND food rewards (bring treats!)
Please note: this workshop addresses loose-leash walking as a cooperative project. It will not teach your dog to "heel" right by your side or to "ignore" distractions. Additionally, dogs who are fearful or anxious outside or who lunge suddenly towards certain things (such as other animals) may be better suited to one of our other services. If you are unsure if this workshop is a food fit, please reach out. Either way, we can help!
Age Requirements: Dogs must be 4 months or older to participate in this workshop.
