Make Your Own Sketchbook
We didn't get to make sketchbooks last month so we're back to make them this month! We'll use book loops and readily available cardboard to make these versatile and customizable sketchbooks.  They can be whatever size and shape you want!  You can also add and take away paper from them as you use them so you don't have to worry so much about permanence and perfection.
This class is the first in a small series of Consistent Craft classes where we'll be talking about drawing more in-depth.

As we build our sketchbooks we'll talk about the things that scare us away from drawing more consistently and I'll let you know what you can expect from Consistent Craft for the rest of the summer (still life drawing, plein air class, and intro to color theory to name a few!).  Let's gear up for summer!

This workshop is about *the practice* and about creating creative work over time - to be engaged in the art of making consistently - whatever that might look like for you.  No one at Consistent Craft is going to tell you to get up every. single. morning. at 5AM to bust out 5 pages of writing or tell you you need to draw something every single day no matter what is going on in your life.

The hope is we can get together and help you figure out how to bring art and writing into your life in a way that actually makes sense to you and makes you feel better, not worse, about practicing.

Expect classes to include generative methods to fall back on when you're stuck, writing exercises to engage with your own creative processes, and lots of chatting with other creative folks who are all in on the practice just like you!  Sharing is always optional, feedback on work is given only with the express consent of the artist or writer - really we're here to make work that can be *just for you*.

About your instructor:

Sarah (they/them) is an artist and writer working in Cumberland, Maine. They teach both movement and craft classes at ECC because they think the practice of each is deeply connected! What we learn from one can enlighten us in the other and as artists we need to tend our bodies as we tend our minds. Their teaching style is a lot about encouraging autonomy, asking questions, and creating a safe space for you to be experimental in your body and your mind. Expect them to be metaphorical, light-hearted, and to come with a really solid playlist.

Sarah studied philosophy, writing, and visual arts at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada. They hold certificates to teach Yoga, Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga. When they aren't teaching they're working on their zine Wastrel, hanging out with other people's dogs, or painting still-lifes in their quiet little house.
