Class length
75 minutes

Yin Yoga is a slow, mindful, and meditative practice that embraces the yin side of the yin/yang spectrum—softening, allowing, and simply being. Throughout class, poses are held for anywhere between three and eight minutes using passive, floor-based shapes that target the body’s deeper connective tissues—tendons, ligaments, and fascia—while also stimulating the energetic meridians described in Chinese Medicine.

With the support of props such as blocks, blankets, bolsters, and straps, the body is invited to relax more fully into each shape. While often considered restorative, the extended holds and deep stretches can bring an unexpected intensity, offering an opportunity to open space not only in the body, but also in the breath and the mind. Within this space, students are encouraged to turn inward, observe, and perhaps begin to ask questions.

Moments between poses, and at times throughout the practice, allow for intuitive, meditative movement, supporting a sense of personal exploration. Modifications are offered for every pose, making the practice accessible to all levels and adaptable to how much or how little sensation each student is seeking. Class concludes with a long, restful savasana.
