Flash Nonfiction Writing!

Taught by Emma Zimmerman
September 15, 2026 7:00 pm · 1 hour

Come help us create a little book of Maine moments! This class is inspired by The Book of Delights by Ross Gay and other collections of short prose.

In each class, we’ll read a new passage and work through new generative writing prompts. We'll consult short works by writers that include Ross Gay, Hanif Abdurraqib, Ada Limón, Maggie Nelson, Leslie Jamison, Claudia Rankine, and more!

Then, we'll work through prompts that urge us to slow down, notice the details of the world around us, dilate moments and place them on the page. While the structure of every class will be the same, each one will bring a new passage and tool for writing short, place-based nonfiction. Everyone who attends will have the opportunity to submit something they have written for inclusion in an informal book/zine of Maine momentsNo prior experience with creative writing is necessary. Anyone interested in writing, journaling, or exploring new realms of creativity is welcome here!
