Hipnotic Choreography (18+)
This dance-based class is a blend of skills, drills, and choreography that focuses on and features the hips and booty. We’ll learn the five fundamentals of twerk and how to incorporate them into floorwork and pole movement. Every 3-4 weeks, we’ll also work on a new piece of original choreography, as well as discuss the history and cultural significance of the styles we’re practicing.
Hipnotic is a drop-in class. However, students do not need to attend every class, as choreography is intentionally repeated to allow time for practice and mastery. Weeks 1 and 2 will focus on the first and second halves of choreo respectively. Weeks 3-4 will be review and refinement.
Students should wear loose-fitting leggings or fuller-coverage athletic shorts (NOT compression leggings!) to allow free movement of legs, hips, and booty. Sneakers and kneepads are recommended. If wearing sneakers, they should not be the same shoes you’ll wear outside to help preserve cleanliness of the dance floor.
All levels of experience are welcome.

Liana has been dancing hip-hop and twerk on and off since the turn of the century, and damn if that doesn’t make her sound old. As a plus size mixed kid, hip-hop and twerk have been fundamental to Liana’s dance and personal journeys, and her goal is to facilitate a choreo-based class where her students can find the same. Liana is a participant of the Twerk Technicians program at Vertical Joes and is ElevtED levels 1 and 2 certified. If you’re looking for her, she’s probably dancing in her kitchen to Megan the Stallion.
