Six Week Iyengar Beginner Series In six weeks we will establish a firm foundation in the principles and practices of yoga from an authentic Indian tradition. We will cover yoga philosophy, postures (āsana), breathing (prāṇāyāma), and meditation (dhyāna). Week 1 - Introduction to yoga philosophy, standing poses, sequence of practice Week 2 - Yogic ethics, seated poses, forward bends, and twists Week 3 - Yogic discipline, balancing and abdominal poses Week 4 - Yogic knowledge, backbends and inversions Week 5 - Inner awareness, inversions and prāṇāyāma Week 6 - Yoga and liberation, prāṇāyāma and meditation Each week will build on the previous classes, integrating new concepts and practices with those already learned. Do you want to learn specific posture alignment, safe ways to do postures and how to practice with integration? We will: · Teach alignment and use of props to practice safely and within your limits · Break postures down so that you will be feel stable, energized, and integrated · Cultivate inner awareness through sensitive practice, breathing, and meditation · Hold space so that each student feels their practice come alive Who will benefit from this beginner series? · The person new to yoga who is not yet comfortable in a general class · The person with an established practice who wants to delve deeper into alignment, inner awareness, and yoga philosophy · Anyone who is interested in learning about themselves and yoga |
