Yoga for Lower Back Health WORKSHOP

October 28 (Sunday)
at 2:00 pm

Class length
135 minutes

Location
305 East Duval Street, Suite 101, Lake City, FL 32055

This is a one-day only special workshop, YOGA FOR LOWER BACK HEALTH.

Yoga is an incredibly powerful tool for spinal health and can help prevent and ease pain, gripping, or fatigue in the lower back. This workshop teaches gentle toning and strengthening exercises alongside flexibility, because it is the combination of awareness, strength, and flexibility that relieves tension and improves the health of the lower back.

It is suitable for all levels; no prior experience is necessary.  It does require that you can get up and down from the floor easily and without assistance.

Ready to feel mobility & ease & learn new postural habits & practices?

Many common activities—especially those that require long periods of sitting—as well as emotional stress can contribute to shortened psoas muscles and, in turn, cause back pain. Hence, this workshop introduces yoga postures that target the psoas muscles to help bring more mobility and ease into our daily lives. In addition, we will experience diaphragmatic breathing, which is a wonderful way to ease back discomfort, because it helps release tension in the psoas. We will also work on some classic poses, such as Virabhadrasana 1 (Warrior 1), Shalabhasana (Locust Pose), and Navasana (Boat Pose), and explore variations of these postures in order focus on areas that contribute to a healthy lumbar spine.

We will also learn how to use props such as a chair and the wall to assist poses--including gentle TWISTS!--that can contribute to lower back health and comfort. These yoga techniques also facilitate the ability to let go of gripping on an emotional as well as physical level, even during physical exertion; learning these approaches often helps release many different postural aggravations and thereby release discomfort in the lower back and foster long-term mobility.

Together we will learn and practice a simple routine as well as tips to continue these healthy habits daily and integrate them into home practice.

Participants will ALSO receive a detailed, illustrated study guide that summarizes the main postures and includes tips so that you can remember and continue what you’ve learned at home.

The afternoon will conclude with a guided deep, systematic relaxation, with special attention paid to how bolsters, chairs, and other props can aid the body in deep release and move towards physical and mental calm and peace.  The use of chairs and yoga props is encouraged to enhance alignment as well as comfort.  Systematic Relaxation combined with diaphragmatic breathing is one of the best possible solutions to lower back discomfort!

Are you ready for more stability and health in your lower back? Want to learn simple techniques for lower back health, that can even lead to emotional release and peace of mind? Yes, please!   Then invest in yourself now.

Please BRING A YOGA MAT.  If you use a shared studio mat, please note there is a $2 rental fee and  it is your responsibility to sanitize it after each use (cleaning supplies provided).  All other props (CHAIRS, bolsters, blankets, blocks, hand weights, eye pillows, straps, etc) are provided; if you have preferred personal props, feel free to bring those.
