This introductory class is designed to acquaint the student in the basics of spindle turning.
Topics covered in the class include:
- Safety
- Lathe components
- Turning tools
- Tool sharpening and use
- How to perform the basic cuts on spindles- V-groove, coves and beads.
The class concludes with the student making a tool handle, applying a ferrule and a finish.
Completion of this class will prepare the student to take the Wood Turning Basics Part 2. Pen turning class.
Wood and turning tools will be provided. Students must bring their own personal safety equipment. A face shield is preferred- at a minimum safety glasses will be required. It is also advised that dust masks be used, this is optional.
Open to any existing SDFWA Member. (Shop Membership not required).
