ChildLight Yoga & Mindfulness for Diverse Abilities Teacher Training, Day 1
with Special Guest Instructor

August 2 (Friday)
at 6:00 pm

Class length
180 minutes

Regardless of our challenges, each human being is uniquely able to develop greater body awareness, physical and mental strength and well-being. Learn how the practice of yoga can benefit youth with a wide range of diagnoses and physical and developmental and learning challenges such as Trauma, Anxiety and Depression, ADD, ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorders, Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Down Syndrome.

In this training, you will learn developmentally appropriate tools, breathing and relaxation techniques to facilitate individualized, group and family programs, as well as posture modifications using chairs and other props. Effective methods for encouraging cooperation, building community and developing social skills will be shared. Participants will focus on creating lesson plans and teaching in a variety of contexts.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Yoga teachers, parents, teachers, school counselors, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers, caregivers and other adults who work with children and teens with special needs.  It is recommended that trainees have a minimum of one year yoga experience.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1. Communicate the physical, cognitive, social and emotional benefits of yoga and mindfulness for children and teens with a wide range of diagnoses, physical and developmental considerations as reflected in the growing evidence base.
2. Share yoga and mindfulness based techniques to address specific needs using a variety of props to make yoga safe, inviting and accessible for all students.
3. Develop, integrate and adjust appropriate practice strategies to support social and emotional learning, encouraging practical life skills for success in today’s world, such as critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaboration.
4. Find and access resources and support for continued learning.

We strongly suggest attending this training in conjunction with the Trauma Informed Yoga & Mindfulness for Youth Workshop. In most cases, the two courses are scheduled back-to-back at the same studio location so you can complete 25 training hours in a three day period (all counting as contact hours for the 95-hour RCYT program).

TUITION
$425, includes 18 contact hours, comprehensive, fully-illustrated instructor manual and (optional) certification administration. Those who complete certification also earn ChildLight Yoga Instructor Circle membership. Click here for Scholarship Opportunities & Group Discounts which are available on a limited basis.
