The lumbopelvic hip complex (aka your low back, pelvis and hips) is the meeting point for your upper body and your lower body. This area of your body is responsible for transmitting force and movement from the upper body to the lower body and vice versa. Anterior pelvic tilt, posterior pelvic tilt, rotation, lateral shift...there's a lot that can go on here. As yoga teachers, we often hear about hip tightness and might receive requests for "hip openers." But are your hips really tight or do they need to be strengthened? In our modern world where many of us spend our days sitting, strengthening might be the answer. In this workshop we'll explore self-myofascial massage, functional movements, strength training exercises and yoga poses that help support hip health. (While this workshop will include a small amount of detail on the low back, our next workshop is focused on spine health.)
